AMERICA REJECTS EXTENSION OF TREATY.

(United Press A«en.—By Electric Tel egraph.—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, May 15. Mr F. B. Kellogg. Secretary of State, has rejected the proposal of Sir Esme Howard. British Ambassador, that. in view of the prospective inability of' the British Government to complete its consultations with the dominions on negotiations for the ne w arbitration treaty with the United States before expiration of the present treaty on June 4, the treaty should be extended temporarily through an exchange of Notes. Sir Esme Howard was informed that an extension could only be made through a new' treaty, requiring the Senate's approval, and. since the delay in negotiating the treaty was not expected to be for long, it was decided that the present pact should be •permitted to lapse. This course, it was felt, would make no practical difference between the tw-o Governments.—Australian Press Association.
