COLLEGE REVUE WILL BE STAGED HERE TONIGHT.

The 1928 production of the Canterbury College New Revue Company its unique in its originality and in the manner of its presentation, which is equal to any amateur performance before staged in Christchurch. It also vies with many of the leading professional companies both from the point of view of stagecraft and powers of entertainment. The whole of the programme has been produced under the direct supervision of a capable committee controlled by Miss Xita Billcliff. whose work two years ago at revue and also her efforts as assistant to Professor Shelley in the College Drama Society since that time should testify to the high level of the performance. An abundance of singularly suitable histrionic talent, coupled with an unbounded and whole-hearted enthusiasm on the part of the. authors and producers has enabled the Co-Peptim-ists to present a variety programme in which there is never a dull moment. Patrons are assured that through the remarkable cohesion of all units concerned in the production of this revue a high-class entertainment will be staged.

The opening item is a dramatic sketch entitled “A Matter of Convenience.” This deals in humorous vein with the recent proposal for the improvement of the Square. This is followed by a short vocal interlude by the “B.T. Combine” and “The College Crowers.” The women of the college are responsible for the next three items, which include drama, farce and some exceptional dancing. The special efforts made have resulted in a bright and finished performance. The historic frocking and period dancing lend special interest to this part of the programme. and “The Feminists’ -Movement” will certainly not be the least attractive item. Before the presentation of the .next major item the public are introduced to a series of pictures. Their originality does not- in any v/ay detract from their pictorial value. The second half of the programme opens with “Quarantine.” a farce having its setting at the Christchurch Hospital and in College House. The theme lends itself to excellent character portrayal. and the steady stream of humour on which it flows is very pleasing. Before the final number a further interlude is provided by “The College Crowers,” this time in two original and hilarious parodies. The musical comedy “Maralto Marie,” which concludes this very entertaining programme, goes with a swing from start to finish, and provides a fitting climax to a splendid evening’s amusement. The acting and dancing of the various members of the cast are of a very high standard, and the general effect of this item is one of gaiety and enthusiasm. The authors have drawn fully on the incidents of recent public interest for their humour.

The attention of patrons is drawn to the fact that, owing to it being impossible to cut any of the items of the programme, it has been found necessary to commence at 7.50 p.m. sharp. The box plan is at the Bristol.
