OUR COURTEOUS MAYOR.
To the Editor. 5i r> —The Mayor of Christchurch and certain of the Labour councillors acted disgracefully on Monday night when ai letter was received from the Canter-
bury Womens Club protesting against the erection of conveniences in Cathedral Square. The leading article in yesterday's “ Star ” expresses the views of ninety-nine citizens out of every hundred, but it is a pity that a sharp lesson could not be taught the offending parties for their gross discourtesy. However, the matter will not be overlooked at the next municipal election. I know few, if any, of the members of Canterbury Club personally, but I am aware that the great majority do a vast amount of social service work year in and year out, never courting publicity, but always sacrificing their time and monev to assist a worthy cause. Scores of organisations such as the Red Cross, St John Ambulance, the Hospital Visitors’ Association, Plunket Society, etc., receive generous aid from this source, iet the Rev J. K. Archer used such terms as “ stupid,” “ ignorant,” “ indiffent, hooligan.” I think he ought to go away for another holiday to clear his mind.—l am, etc., NO DICTATOR.
