Mr and Mrs James Cleland (Timaru) are staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr and Mrs J. Woods, Riccartonu have returned to Christchurch from the West Coast. Mrs Renaut. Lyttelton, left yesterday for Akaroa, where she will spent a short holidaj’. Mrs Hanmer Atkinson will leave Christchurch this evening for Wellington. Mr and Mrs Lufft, of Sydney, left for Dunedin this morning, after a brief stay in Christchurch. Mrs Leslie Biss, Christchurch, and her small son are the guests of Mr and Mrs Herbert Coull, Wellington. The Rev H. H. Mathias and Mrs Mathias have left, via America, for England, where they intend to reside in future. Mrs M’Alpine (Spye, North Canterbury) is visiting Christchurch, and*is staying at Warwick House. Miss Harley, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs R. Cracroft Wilson, King Country, has returned to Christchurch. Miss Nancy Gibson (Fendalton) has returned from a visit to Mrs J. C. Miller (Woodbury). Sir John and Lady Luke, of Wellington. arrived in Christchurch this mornand and are staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr and Mrs Hugh Ensor and Miss Ann 6 Ensor, Rangiora, and their guest, Miss Oram, of Dunedin, arrived in Christchurch this morning, and are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs Colin Cook and Mrs Maude Cook. Lyttelton, left last evening for the north, en route to Sydney, where they will spend the winter months. Mr and Mrs E. C. Sim, of Tapanui, together with .Mrs Sim’s parents, Mr and Mrs Woods, of Waikouaiti, motored to Christchurch, and were the guests of Mrs C. J. Harden, “ Naumai,” 53, Edward Avenue. After spending a most enjoyable holiday amongst other relatives and friends, they left for their respective homes on Tuesday afternoon. The funeral of the late Clarice Edith Flindle took place on Friday last, leaving the residence of her parents, 10, Derby Street, St Albans. Miss Flindle was of a very bright and cheerful disposition, and her early demise, after a short and painful illness, came as a great shock to her many friends. Deep sympathy was shown to Mr and MrsFlindle in their great loss by the many beautiful wreaths and expressions of sympathy. The service at the home and graveside was conducted by the Rev Blight, of Durham Street Methodist Church, the interment taking place at the Bromley Cemetery, in the presence of many friends. Ballantyne’s House, with whom Miss Flindle was associated, was represented by Messrs K. Ballantyne, Hurst, Leith. Smith and Gresham, and Misses Wareham, Smith, Cox and Woledge. The pall-bearers were Messrs P. H. Hyndman, W. Rogers, Howarth and K. J. Rogers. Mrs A. Dickson gave an enjoj'able welcome home evening at her residence in Bealey Street, in honour of Miss Margery Myers, who arrived back a few days ago from a visit to London. The hostess wore black crepe de chine, with gold embroidery, and Miss Jessie Dickson, who assisted her mother in the entertainment of the guests, wore an attractive frock of turquoise taffetas, wreathed with multi-coloured silk flowers. Miss Myers wore a distinctive dress of black ring velvet, -with red and gold trimming. The rooms were profusely decorated with streamers and autumn leaves, and the supper table, in the hall, was prettily arranged with gold chrysanthemums, while the fancy sweets baskets and the caps of varied hues added further to the gaiety of the scene. The evening passed pleasantly with music, games and dancing. Among those present were:—Mrs W. Vaughan, Mrs H. Hughes. Mr and Mrs C. T. Aschman, Mr and Mrs F. A. Bullock, Mr and Mrs T. J. Chappie, Misses Palmer, Threlkeld, R. Myers, Aileen Warren, B. Pollard, P. Ellwood, N. Ellwood, G. Robinson, G. Griffin. M. Brown, D. Bentley, M. Sloane, Joan Cutts, Joan Meikle and Joan Hughes, Messrs D. El wood. E. Craighead, t! Sloane, P. Young, H. Dickson and A. Dickson.
