RECORDS LOWERED AT CHAMPIONSHIPS.
night was a record-breaking night at the Tepid Baths, when the remaining Canterbury swimming championships were held. There were poor entries and little enthusiasm was shown in the competitions which were confined to intermediate and junior boy and girl swimmers. Three new records were established and an attempt to lower the figures for the 100yds intermediate breast-stroke proved successful. Miss V. Berry, a Fendalton school pupil, established records In the 75yds junior free style championship and the 100yds junior free style championship, and J. Rl’Donald, Fast Christchurch, broke the 75yds junior boys’ breaststroke record. In a special attempt on C. Jones’s Intermediate free style record of lmin 26 3-ssec, V. Hunter, paced by P. Foster, was successful by 4-ssec. The results of the events were as follows: 100yds Intermediate Boys’ Backr stroke Championship—F. Foster 1. Time —lmin 40sec. 75yds Junior Boys’ Free Style Championship—J. M’Donald 1. G. Low and J Hunter also competed. Time—s2 l-sseo. 75yds Junior Girls’ Breast-stroke Championship—Miss V. Berry 1. Time—--46 3-ssec. 75yds Junior Boys’ Breast-stroke Championship—J. M’Honald 1, J. Hunter 2. Times—73 4-ssec and 75sec. Both competitors broke the record of 75 l-spee held by J. Lyons. 75yds Junior Girls' Free Style Championship—Miss V. Berry 1. Miss R. Low also started. Tjme—6o 3-ssec. The winner broke the record of 64 4-ssec established by Miss Turgess in 1923. 100yds Junior Girls Free Style Championship—Miss V. Berry 1. Time —Imir 27sec. The winner broke the record of lmin 30aec, held by Mias Turgess since
