CONDEMNED MAN TRIES SUICIDE.

WOUND IN THROAT LEAVES PRISONER IN WEAKENED -STATE.

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received May 2, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON. May 1. Frederick Guy Browne, one of the two men convicted of murdering Constable Gutteridge, attempted to commit suicide in Pentonville Prison, says the “ Daily Express.” He tried to cut his throat with a piece of steel while in bed, inflicting severe wounds half an inch deep. A warder, on entering the condemned man’s cell, noticed bloodstains on the bedding, and summoned the governor and the doctor. Browne’s wounds were dressed and he was carried in a weak condition to the hospital.—Australian Press Association.
