LONDON, April IS. The Rangoon correspondent of “The Times” states that Francis Birtles. on his record-breaking motor journey from Calcutta to Rangoon, where no through road exists, had to follow pony tracks, frequently carving his way through dense virgin jungle. Once he took 28 days to travel 36 miles. He cut his arm badly while he was hacking his way through a tiger-infested jungle. No medical attention was available. Birtles reached Rangoon at 10.30 pin. on April 10 in an exhausted and feverish condition. The trip from Calcutta occupied 86 days.
