Respecting the term “ Australasia,” Mr H. P. West, secretary of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, states the “ Otago Daily Times.” has written to the New Zealand representatives of Thomas Cook and Son calling attention to the employment of the word in one of their sailing lists, and has received a I reply in which the firm points out that some years ago when the Government Publicity Department suggested to it the discontinuance of the word “Australasia” in the title of its montnly gazettes and general printed matter the request was noted, and the titie was altered to read “The Australian and New Zealand Travellers’ Gazette.” ; The inclusion of the word in the small sailing list folder referred to was entirely an oversight. They were writing to their Melbourne office drawing attention to this, and the correction would probably be made in the next issue of the list. The rip of the tide under the Sumner pier is attracting the attention of visitors. At half ebb, it strikes the piles with unusual force, and amongst the woodwork below churns up like a mill race. Residents of long standing do not remember seeing this before. The development of a sand bank just opposite has concentrated the stream into a narrow channel, the middle of which now passes under the end of the pier. So strong is the flow that a rowing boat can scarcely move against it, while a bather getting into it would «oon be in serious difficulties.
