CANTERBURY COLLEGE COMMERCE STUDENTS FORM A SOCIETY.
A meeting of commerce students at Canterbury College, convened by Messrs D. J. Macdonald and A. B. Struthers, was held in the Little Theatre, Canterbury College, on Friday. The meeting unanimously decided to form a Commerce Students’ Society within the college. Professor A. H. Tocker, who presided over an attendance of forty, outlined the aims and objects of the society, which, he said, were three in number—to strengthen the connection between business practice and university instruction, to promote and maintain the interests of the commerce students in the college, and to encourage student research into practical business problems. The speaker stressed the need for such a society within the college, and gave a brief outline of the work done by similar societies in*other universities.
A constitution was presented and adopted, and the following officers were appointed for the ensuing year:— Patron, Dr James Hight; president, Professor A. H. Tocker; honorary vicepresidents, Messrs G. Lawn, R. A. Cuthbert, J. Morrison, J. Smith, A. O. Wilkinson, W. Machin, H. S. E. Turner and Norton Francis; honorary secretary, Mr A. B. Struthers; honorary treasurer, Mr G. Brocklehurst: honorary auditor, Mr C. Evans; committee. Miss O. Talbot and Messrs D. I. Macdonald, C. H. Perkins and B. N. Taylor.
