SOUTH HELD UP BY NORTHERNERS.

NATIONALIST ADVANCE DEFINITELY CHECKED. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph.—Copyright." (Received April 30, 11.30 a.m.) SHANGHAI. April 29 The lull in the fighting in Shantung is explained by the fact that the rushing up of reinforcements Manchuria has enabled Marshal Sun Chuanfang to reassemble his defeated troops for the recapture of Tsin-an and Taian. He will offer strong resistance to the Southern advance, on which Generals Feng-hsang and C-hiang Kaishek are conferring with General Lafang as to the best means to carry on the campaign. Foreign military observers state that the Southerners are definitely checked in Shantung, while they are also fighting a losing campaign along the Hankow railway.—United Service.
