OLYMPIC TEAM BEGINS TOUR.
FAREWELL FUNCTIONS IN WELLINGTON. (Special to the “Star ). WELLINGTON. April 28 The Dominion’s best wishes for the success of the team at the Amsterdam games were voiced by the Prime .Minister at a farewell gathering tendered by himself and Mrs Coates yesterday He expressed confidence in -the team selected, adding: “We know you will be all* out to win. that you vvill give of your best, and that you will never let New Zealand down.’’ Those present included several Ministers of *he Crown, representatives of sports bodies ir.d others. Mr Coates asked Mr Amos to convey .o the British Olympic Association thanks for their inspiring message to :he people of New Zealand twelve months ago, for the many courtesies ;xtended and assistance received, and, finally, for the fine Imperial spirit rejected in their invitation to share the juarters of the British delegation at Amsterdam.
A send-off to the team tendered bv he New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association at three o'clock Vas markid by enthusiasm. Mr M Yillv presided. He said that sport brought out •.he best in a nation. He would rather welcome every member of the team Dack as good losers than as bad winders. Whether they won or lost, they vould be assured of a hearty welcome rack. A civic farewell was tendered in the Town Hall at 5 p.m.
The team went aboard the Remuera ist night, and sailed at daybreak.
