ELMWOOD BATHS.
To the Editor. Sir, —A number of householders who attended the annual meeting of the Elmyvood School Committee endeavoured to secure information as to the cost, etc., of the school swimming baths, but failed. I understand that a tender for £740 was received, to erect the baths, namely, baths, ladder, springboard and sheds, all complete. This tender was not accepted, as the committee decided on another tender for £3OO odd, for bath, spring-board and ladder only. I understand that the cost of the baths complete has been £928 or £l9B more than the original highest tender; further that the committee have collected the sum of £lOsl for this work, and we were told that there is a deficit of £135. I can Jfardly believe that the figures supplied as above, are correct. Will Mr Lohrey, chairman of the committee, supply, through the columns of your paper, the following authentic information:—(a) What yvas the total amount of money collected for the bath ? (b) What yvere the actual expenses incurred in collecting that amount? (c) What was the total cost of the baths, per Glue Brothers’ contract? (d) What was Mr W. Williamson’s tender for the baths? (e) What is the amount of the baths account at present, with subsidy added, whether debit or credit? I am, etc., INQUIRER.
