“BIRD OF PASSAGE” ASKS FOR EXTRA CHANCE
Edward Wood, alias Edward James pleaded guilty to-day to charges of drunkenness, being unlawfully on licensed premises, and breach of a prohibition order. Mr C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., was on the bench. “Last time he was before the Court he had had a great spree on a cheque,” said Sttb-Inspector Fitzpatrick. “Since then he has been drinking excessively. We had to take him to hospital this time, he was so bad. and heavy expenses. £3 2s 6d, were incurred.” “If I get one chance I'll make good, sir,” pleaded accused. “My employer will take me back into my job. and I’ll be able to pay a fine in two weeks. I’ve got the drink clean out of me now. One more chance and I'll never do it again.” The Magistrate; A bird of passage? The Sub-Inspector; Yes, sir. For drunkenness, accused was convicted and ordered to pay expenses £3 2s 6d. On the charge of being unlawfully on licensed premises, he was convicted and discharged, and for the breach of his prohibition order he was fined £l. “You can arrange with the police about time to pay,” said the Magistrate.
