Mr R. Linklater (Palmerston North) | is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Sir John and Lady Findlay are staying at the United Service Hotel. Miss Phyllis Hetherington. Thames, is visiting friends in Christchurch. Mrs J. Airiger, of Hamilton Street. Fendalton. leaves to-night for London by the Remuera. Miss Janet Storr}- and Mr Leonard Storry have returned from a visit to Sydney. Mr and Mrs Gerald Beard. Masterton. and Mr and Mrs J. M. Griffiths arrived in Christchurch this morning, and are staying at Warner's Hotel. Mr and Mrs A. J. M’Master. Pigeon Bay, arrived in Christchurch this morning. and are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs Cecil Louisson arrived in Christchurch on Tuesday from the north, and is the guest of Mrs C. Louisson' Heaton Street. Mr and Mrs C. R. Orr Walker (Timaru), Mr and Mft J. Ilenrys (Wellington). and Miss Joan E. Hewlett (England) are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mrs E. R. Guinness (Timaru), Mr and Mrs Fieldgate (Haiimer Springs), and Mr and Mrs H. Dampier Crossley (Rotherham) are. guests at the Clarendon Hotel. Mrs L. Fuunnell is leaving to-night to join the s.s. Naldera at Sydney, en route to England, on a visit to her Mr and Mrs E. G. Norman and their small son (May’s Road) are leaving to-night to join the Remuera. en route to England for a six months’ trip. Mr and Mrs Herbert Gardiner (Sumner) left last, night for the North Island. Recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel are # Mr and Mrs C. Nicols (Turakina), Mr and Mrs W. J. Shannon (Feilding). Mr and Mrs R. B. Temple, and Miss Chapman (Timaru), Mrs N. Gibbons (Lower Hutt), Mr and Mrs A. Mi 11 ward (Wanganui), Mr and Mrs Donald, and Mr and Mrs T. Ilodgins (Pahiatua).

Guests at the United Service Hotel include Messrs J. Oliver (Auckland), W. A. Hislop (Wellington). A. Leighton (Sydney), J. A. Gromann (Australia), 11. R. Baddely and A. J. Pratt (Wanganui), lan Menzies (Menzies Bay), and J. Chapman (Timaru). Messrs M. A. Storey (Durham, England), E. Deiderich (Sydney), S. E. Man (Melbourne), G. Magnus and A. Gray (Wellington), M. D. Rainbow (San Francisco),. C. Wainwright (England), R. Leitch, A. Grant, R. L. Grant and W. T. Evans (Fairlie) are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Recent arrivals at the Hotel Federal include —Mr J. 11. Lambert (Invercargill), Mr P. M’Skimming (Benhar); Mr 11. Patience, Mr J. K. Curtis, Mr G. D. Thomas (Wellington), Mr C. W. Iverach (Hawarden), Mr C. N. Gunn (Greymouth), Mr H. Jordan (Te Aroha), Mr and Mrs F. N. Meadows (Lower Hutt), Mr and Mrs G. M. Arthur (Timaru), Mr W. J. Lowe (Wellington), Mr and Mrs J.. Brown (Temuka), Mr and Mrs F. Williams, Mr and Mrs L. G. Norton, Mr G. A. Somerville (Wellington). Last Tuesday evening, a very successful social was held at the Phillipstown Free Kindergarten School. It was organised by Miss ull (principal), the teachers and the Ladies’ 0 Committee. In the absence of Mrs T. E. Taylor. Miss Hull opened the proceedings with a few words of welcome to the visitors. During the evening several games were played, and items were given by Messrs George Campbell, Sydney Comfort end Ted Ilegan; Misses Campbell, Winnie Andrews and Adeline Pyne, which were very much enjoyed by all present. A Parents’ Committee was then elected, which included Mrs Woodham (convener), Mesdames Welton. Durie, Williams, Bugg, El wood and Hart, Messrs Valentine’ Baker, Harris, Bugg and Daniels’. Supper was then served, which was followed by a few dances. % The proceedings were then concluded bv the .singing of Auld Lang Svne. Before the guests left, it was announced that a. coin evening social would be held there next week in aid of the dance funds, at which Mr George Campbell and party have kindly promised to perform some more of their enjoyable items.
