It was decided to leave the matter as it stood, as nothing further could be done, nearly all the firms being manufacturers of Empire goods. Several firms wrote offering to put on novel turns. The letters were received. The Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association wrote expressing regret that it could not assist in the organisation of the procession. It had appointed representatives to take part in the procession. It was decided to inform the Travellers’ Association that no representatives of local bodies would be in the procession. Letters were received from the head masters of the St Bede’s and Technical Colleges and the Boys’ High School in connection with the participation of the pupils of these schools in the procession . The secretary said that a suggestion had been made that the Chess Club take part in the procession, that a human chess game be played in Cranmer Square. The executive had recommended that the committee take control. Mr J. P. Whatman, of Unlimited Charities, had offered to lend costumes. It was decided to ask the Entertainment Committee to control it. The Procession Committee would arrange for the chess display to be allotted a position in the procession.
