Per Press Association. NAPIER. April 26. Under peculiar circumstances a block of five buildings in the centre of Taradale. fi\*e miles from Napier, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The buildings were occupied by T. H. Orutchley, a baker; G. Lines, hardware store; M. J. Garrie, a tailor; and Miss Jeffarcs, a dressmaker. Mr Crutchlev says that his house was broken into the night preA'ious when the key of the bakehouse was stolen. Last night he heard an intruder below, but receiA*ed no answer to his challenge. Fire broke out in the bakehouse shortly after. There had been no fire in the bakehouse since Tuesday morning. All the occupants escaped in their night attire.
