zlODn Mi STUDEBAKER breaks every Australian record Crom one to twenty-four hours and from 100 to 1,700 miles. On March 15th a strictly stock model Studebaker Commander Sports Roadster broke every Australian record for speed and endurance, travelling 1,701-J miles in 24 hours, an average speed of 70.8 miles per hour. Hampered by a blinding dust-storm and travelling over the dry bed of Lake Perkolilli, West Australia—not a smooth speed track —Norman Smith, Motor Editor of the Sydney Sunday Times, under the supervision of the Royal Automobile Club of West Australia, secured another victory for the Studebaker Commander. In America, at Atlantic City Speed-way, the Studebaker Commander Sports Roadster travelled 25,000 miles in less than 23,000 minutes, creating new world records. Studebaker now holds every official stock car record for speed and endurance regardless of power and price. Convincing proof of Studebaker popularity is evidenced by the fact that out of a total of CCO.OOO votes polled in the Sydney Evening News “ Most Popular Car ” Competition, Studebaker secured more than 190,000 votes, winning easily by a majority of 44,000 votes over the second competitor. Studebaker speed, endurance and popularity are substantiated by fact. Read what A. E. ANSELL, President, Otago Motor Club says about Studebaker. “ Having completed a holiday tour in the Southern Lakes District, a trip in the vicinity of 1000 miles, I think it up to me to say how pleased I am with my Studebaker Commander. Although heavily laden throughout the trip, no hill presented any difficulty whatever, nor did the engine even falter at any time. “ The trip over the Crown Range, a severe test of the hill climbing capability of a car. was a revelation of the efficiency of her power and effective coohng device of the engine. Although the day chosen for the trip over was extremely hot, just over 90 deg. in the shade, the summit was reached with the greatest of ease on second gear and heat of the engine did not show anything greater than normal, did not in fact pass the central point of the driving range. For a 36 H.P. engine the petrol consumption was comparatively low, averaged 19 miles per gallon. On one day’s trip she did 114 miles on six gallons of petrol,, and that day’s run included the Cardrona Valley and over the Crown Range. “As a comfortable and powerful car I have yet to drive one that is in any way her superior.” We invite you to Inspect and drive the Studebaker Commander to-day.
