WRECKED STEAMER SOLD AT AUCTION.

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph,—Copyright.) (Received April 18. 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 18. The wrecked steamer Iron Chief was sold at auction with cargo for £11,277 and sleepers for £sso.—Australian Press Association.

The Iron Chief, an inter-State cargo steamer, while en route from Port Stephens to Goff’s Harbour, went ashore on Mermaid Reef, near Crowdy Head. Big holes were made in the hull and following a storm she became a total wreck. She was insured for £40,000. the prime policy being held by the United Insurance Company, and r,e-insurances by many other Sydney offices.
