MOTOR-CAR CUT IN HALF BY SMASH.

DRIVER AND FRIEND KILLED AFTER SKID. LONDON. March 3. Two motorists were killed on the new main road between Southend and London, when a touring motor-car was nearly cut. in half. The tragedy occurred near Wennington, and the two men killed were: Mr John Henry Martin, aged 50, of Rockleigh Avenue, and Mr Stanley Lambert Taylor, aged 25, of Victoria Road, both of Leigh-on-Sea. They were motoring to London in a four-seater, and approached a heavy lorry carrying a machine for mixing concrete. The lorry was going towards Til)ury and another lorry was coming

out of some sandpits. Seeing there was a danger of a collision, the driver of the car, Mr Taylor, put on his Owing to the slippery state of road, due to frost, *the car skidded and crashed with great force into the lorry. Mr Martin was hurled a considerable distance from the car, which was completely wrecked. Mr Taylor was found among the wreckage with his hands still on the steering-wheel. Apparently he had been killed instantaneously. His companion died almost as soon as assistance arrived. George Strange, driver of the lorry, said he saw the car approaching as he was slowing up to pass the other lorry coming out of the sandpits. He was just clearing it when the car seemed to swing right across the road and struck the radiator of his lorry with terrific force.
