POLO TOURNAMENT.
Seldom has there been such a large attendance at polo on the Christchurch Polo Club’s grounds as yesterday afternoon. The games w ? ere unusually interesting. the weather ideal and the recent rains had made the turf beautifully green. Among those present were;—Lady Rhodes and Miss Hynes, Mrs George Gould and Miss Barbara Gould, Mrs and Miss Boyle, Colonel and Mrs Studholme, Mrs Marmaduke Bethell. Mrs Bowden, Captain and Mrs Hennessy, Mrs Guy Cotterill, Mrs D. Montgomery, Mrs Gerald Anderson, Mrs Hartley Smith. Miss Betty Macdonald, Mr and Mrs George Holford, Mrs T. Gibson, Miss Fay Gibson. Mrs Wells, Mrs J. Rolleston, Mr and Mrs J. C. Clarkson, Mrs Wanklyn, Mrs Rossmore Cracroft Wilson, Mrs John Moore, Mrs Peter Hall, Mrs Wilding, Miss O'Rorke, Mrs Andrews and Miss May Andrews, Mrs Maurice Gresson, Mrs G. Mathias (Cave) and Miss Wyn Irwin. Many players in the visiting teams w’ere accompanied by their wives. From the Amuri were Mr and Mrs D. C. Macfarlane and Mr and Mrs L. R. C. Macfar.lane. From Banks Peninsula, Sir Bruce and Lady Stewart and Mr and Mrs Henry Menzies. From Hawke’s Bay, Mr and Mrs Jack Lyons, Mr and Mrs N. M. Campbell, Mr and Mrs J. Gatenby, and Mr and Mrs F. M’Kenzie. Mrs Herbert Elworthy, Miss Cecil Elworthy, Mrs Arthur Elworthy. Mrs W. H Orbell and Mrs C. L. Orbell, whose husband represented Pareora, and Mrs D C. Collins and Mrs C. H_ A. Hewitt, of the Wairarapa, were present. Also—Mr and Mrs G. H. Grigg, Major and Mrs R. M. Johnson. Colonel and Mrs G. F. Hutton, Mr and Mrs Derrick Gould, Mr and Mrs J. H. Grigg. Mr and Mrs R. B. Johnson. Mr and Mrs H. G. Livingstone, Mr D. Riddiford (Wairarapa) and Mr R. L. Levin. Others present were;—Mr and Mrs M'Kelvie (Feilding). Mr and Mrs F. D. M’Kenzie (Havelock North), Major, Mrs and Miss Bond (Timaru), Mrs Geoffrey Rich. Mr and Miss ActonAdams (Culverden), Mr and Mrs Smail, Miss Whitton. the Misses Tench, Mary Macdonald. Betty Rutherford, Joan Fulton. Adrienne Acland. P. Morton, Miss Mollie Stevenson and Miss Mavis Saunders. Many spectators watched from their cars and all the available seats provided were filled. Afternoon tea was served in a marquee behind the pavilion.
