(Suecial to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, March 8. A man. who was over £2OO in arrears with a maintenance order, expressed regret to-day at the Court, saying he had been pig-headed, but would try to do better in future. The Magistrate: But you have been convicted of all sorts of offences. How are you going to pay maintenance? Defendant: It’s never too late to mend, you know. The Magistrate: I’ve heard it said so. Defendant was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as current maintenance is paid, plus 5s a week off the arrears.
