An interesting address on “ Museums, Old and New," was given last evening to the Canterbury Philosophical Institute, by the president, Professor R. Speight. There was a large attendance of members. Professor Speight said that the main educational value of a modern museum rested on its public character. A modern museum should be accurately classified on a scale that provided for the different classes of exhibits being shown as distinct from each other. The most striking exhibits should be those at the entrance. Therefore, the exhibits at the entrances of New Zealand museums should be those characteristic of the Dominion. A vote of thanks was accorded Professor Speight.
