SYDENHAM SWIMMERS REVIVE OLD CLUB.

A small but enthusiastic gathering of swimming supporters met in St Saviour’s Hall last evening in order to consider the resuscitation of the defunct Sydenham Amateur Swimming Club. Mr F. W. Hobbs was in the chair, and after formal discussion, it was resolved to re-form the club and to elect a committee to make preliminary arrangements. The chairman stated that a few weeks ago a few Sydenham swimming enthusiasts got together and ran a very successful carnival. This encouraged the organisers to call a meeting with a view to forming the Sydenham Club. He could not understand why the people had not attended the meeting in larger numbers, as the baths had been highly popular during the bathing season. Mr J. H. Pratt considered that the formation of the club would be a good idea. Although on the eve of the off season, the committee could do a great deal of work in preparation for next swimming season. A motion was then carried that the Sydenham Amateur Swimming Club be formed, and that officers be elected. The following officers were elected:— Patron, the Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer): president, Mr P. Ring; vicepresidents, Messrs J. H. Pratt, M. E. Lyons, J. Gray, J. ME wan, W. E. Munday, J. Griffiths, E. J. Howard, M.P., Dr Anderson and Mrs F. W. Hobbs; club captain, Mr IT. Hiokllestone; vicecaptain, Mr F. W. Hobbs: honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Bassett; committee, Messrs R. Ayres, A. Burrell, L. Hatchett, J. Harper, V. Clancey, Mrs Hiddlestone and Mrs Whittington; auditor, Mr C. Poore. It was resolved to leave the matter of subscriptions over until the beginning of the new season. The chairman stated that the old Sydenham Club had a credit balance of £l3 when it had fallen through. That amount would be placed to the credit of the new club as soon as it was officially recognised. The matter of raising funds during the winter months was left in the hands of the committee.
