OBITUARY.
ROBERT HENRY FRANCIS. After having suffered for some time from ill-health, Mr Robert Henry Francis, principal of Robert Francis, Ltd., passed away quietly at St George’s Hospital last evening; in his fortyseventh year. Popular and of modest disposition, the late Mr Francis was a man of retired habits. Apart from his business, into which he threw his heart and soul, the only hobby of Mr Francis was golf. He was a member of the Christchurch Golf Club, and was held in high regard by fellow members. Over thirty-two years ago, the firm of Robert Francis, Ltd., was founded by the late Robert Francis. In 1905 Mr Francis died, and his son, Robert Henry, took over control. Mr Charles Francis, a brother, joined the business in 1909, and under the able direction of Mr Robert Francis, the firm flourished. Some time ago Mr Francis suffered a severe illness, the effects of which resulted in his death last evening. A few years ago, when resident in Phillipstown, Mr Francis was deacon at the Phillipstown Church, under Archdeacon Ensor. In 1926 he travelled to America on a health recruiting trip, and returned to Christchurch, feeling a great deal better. His death when in the prime of life is much regretted by his very many friends and associates. Mr Francis is survived by his wife, one brother, Mr Charles Francis, and six sisters—Mesdames G. Morton (Dunedin), G. Smail (England), C. E. Rowe (Wellington), C. Charlesworth (Wellington) and Sisters Francis and Teresa, of the Deaconess’s Home. Mr Francis will be buried privately. ______
