PRINCESS VICTORIA’S WEDDING.
An historic wedding veil, orange biossoms, candles-and flowers, and all the usual paraphernalia associated with the bride, were brought into evidence at the wedding of the elderly Princess Victoria Schaumburg-Lippe/ sister of the ex-Kaiser, to Alexander Zoubkoff, the youthful Russian immigrant (writes the London correspondent of the Leader”). The veil was once a cherished treasure of the Royal House, and it is considered to be the most beautiful and historic bridal veil in Europe. It passed into the German dynastic family when Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, Princess Victoria, was married in 3858 to the then Crown Prince of Prussia, afterwards Emperor Frederick, father of Wilhelm 11. Patterned on this exquisitely fine lace are the armorial flowers of the House of Windsor—the English rose, the Scottish thistle, and the Irish clover. The Princess fastened the veil to her head with a golden band adorned with pearls and diamonds, and surmounted by a wreath of orange blossoms. Her gown was of pale grey crepe georgette, and she wore several ropes of magnificent pearls. Thus decked out. a daughter of the Royal House of Hohenzollerri became F rau Zoubkoff. The bridegroom was sartorially immaculate in frock coat, with a white chrysanthemum in the buttonhole.
The ceremony took place in the castle of Schaumburg, the residence of the Princess, and was conducted according to the rites of the Greek Orthodox Church by the presiding priest of the Russian Church at Wiesbaden. He was a strikingly picturesque figure in his gorgeous robes, with a biretta of violet velvet on his head. Ilerr and Frau Zoubkoff. it was stated, would spend their honeymoon in the Tyrol. It was their intention to liquidate the Bonn residence and return to Berlin, where Ilerr Zoubkoff hoped to take up a business position.
