FISHERMEN CARRIED OUT TO SEA WHEN LAUNCH ENGINE FAILS.

A Westport, fisherman, Mr W. Kerr, had an unpleasant experience last week. His launch was carried away owing to water getting into the ma-

chinery making the engine fail to act, but he was picked up on Saturday morning off Granity by the s.s. Kaimanawa as the latter was steaming northward. Captain Hewitt took Kerr aboard and gave him a meal, as he had been without food for twenty-four hours. He signalled the tug, which was also in search, and the tug took Kerr on board and the launch in tow, returning to port about noon.
