CANTERBURY ATHLETIC CENTRE PROTESTS OVER OLYMPIC GAMES TEAM.
The nominations for the Olympic Games team to represent New Zealand were officially received by the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last evening. They did not create a favourable impression, especially with regard to the inclusion of a lady runner. Mr R. Beattie was in the chair, and immediately the matter was broug'ht up the centre went into committee. After a good deal of discussion it was resolved to forward a resolution to the New Zealand Council as follows: — “In view of the performances of the athletes who have not been given preference in the Olympic Games team, the centre protests against the inclusion of Miss Norma Wilson (Gisborne) in the preferred candidates, especially in view of the fact that ladies’ athletics in New Zealand is not so advanced as in other parts of the world, and that some of the non-preference candidates have a far better chance of bringing honour to the Dominion.”
