MR H. C. ORBELL, FORMER MAYOR OF AKAROA, DIES IN ASHBURTON.

Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, February 24. The death has occurred of Mr Herbert Clement Orbell, 63 years of age, who was Mayor of Akaroa from 1901 to 1906. He had resided in Ashburton for 22 and was borough solicitor for many years. He leaves a widow and two married daughters. The late Mr Orbell was born at Waikouaiti, Otago, in 1865. He was educated at Christ’s College, and, after being articled to Mr B. C. Ilaggitt, then Crown Prosecutor, of Dunedin, was called to the Bar in 1888. He practised for a short time at Waimate and A.shburton respectively, and in 1895 went to Akaroa. He married, in 1895, a daughter of the late Mr James Pilbrow, of Ashburton. His connection with the Akaroa Borough Council dated back to 1897, when he was elected one of its members.
