AUSTRALIANS ARE COMPETITORS AT RIFLE MEETING.
Per Press Association. GREYTOWN, February 20. The Papawai rifle meeting opened this morning in good conditions. The sun was shining, with a steady light easterly breeze, w’hich caused no inconvenience. The president, Mr J. F. Thompson, welcomed the Australian team, Captain R. W. Reseigh acknowledging the welcome. The Australians express themselves as being very pleased with the conditions and the range. Results:— SERVICE MATCH. £2 10s—F. C. Hamilton (Wanganui) 31. £2 10s—Capt. Simmonds (Paeroa). £2 10s—P. U. Kummer (Tewarau). J. C. Armstrong and E. Q. Wilesmith, both of New South Wales, take £1 each. BID WELL MATCH, 300 Yards. £5—E. J. Channon (New South Wales), 49. £4-t~J. S. Hood (Featherston), 48. £3—J. C. Fast (Greytown). 48. £2—H. Harris (Christchurch), 48. £2—S. Hayes (New South Wales), 47. £1 —W. H. Harris (Victoria). 47.The visitors were entertained at lunch by the local club.
