Mr Holland addressed a meeting at Russell on Friday. While there he also engaged in historical research. He spoke at Pukehuia in the evening, and goes to Dargaville to-morrow. It has been known for some time that the Wellington City Council has acquired under the Public Works Act a. site on the Te Aro flat for the erection of a new milk station. The area concerned includes a small portion of Tory Street, one side of Charlton Avenue, the greater portion of Alma Lane and a number of houses in Francis Place. Last week notices were served on some thirty-seven tenants to quit their dwellings and other premises occupied by them. This step on the part of the Wellington council has caused some alarm, and tenants have decided to wait on the council and ask for co-operation with them in endeavouring to find housing accommodation for those who are asked to vacate their present homes. It also was decided that if necessary the Labour Department should be approached for assistance and in the present situation, and that the Government be asked to take an active interest in conjunction with the City Council in endeavouring to find homes for those likely to be ejected.
