MINISTERAL. The Hon W. D. Stewart arrived in Dunedin on Saturday afternoon. He will remain there two weeks. Mr A. G. Henderson, editor-manager of the Lyttelton Times Company, left for Wellington on Saturday. Mr J. J. Gibson, of Wellington, has been appointed a member of the Main Highways Board. Mr A. Wells Newton,"engineer to the Evre County Council, ■will go north tonight to attend the Civil Engineers Conference in Wellington. The Wellington Presbytery appointed a committee to draw up a suitable statement for adoption by the Presbytery of the work of the Rev J. H. MacKenzie, Wadestown, who is retiring. Mr W. E. Donnelly, who has been appointed travelling organiser to the Methodist Y'oung Men’s Bible Class Movement, was welcomed at the Methodist Conference this morning by the president, the Rev W. J. Elliott. Mr Maurice Diamond, a representative of Empire Theatres, Sydney, is visiting New Zealand on business. p. Selig, first life member of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of New Zealand, left this evening for Wellington. Mr Frank Dyer. Consul for Greece, is visiting Christchurch, and expects to be away from Wellington for a week. Mr F. N. Thompson, the new assistant city engineer at Wellington, has taken up his duties, chief of which will be the supervision of road and footpath paving. Mr J. D. Hall is being presented by the Spreydon Domain Committee with a gold key for making possible the building of the new pavilion, which was opened on Saturday. The Executive Committee of the Wellington Citizens’ War Memorial have passed a vote of sympathy with Major W. Hardham, V.C., in his severe The delegates of the Wellington City Council to the conference of municipalities to be held in Nelson on March 14 next, are the Mayor (Mr G. A. Troup), and Councillors H. D. Bennett and T. C. A. Hislop. Dr James Hight was elected chairman of the Tutorial Class Committee of Canterbury College, in place of Dr Charles Chilton, at a meeting on Friday evening, and on the same occasion Mr George Manning was re-elected secretary. The Hon T. S. Weston has been elected a member of the council of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, in place of Mr E. W. Hunt, who has resigned. Mr Weston is a vice-presi-dent) of the academy. At the annual meeting of the Wellington Division of the British Medical Association, Sir Donald M’Gavin was elected president. Dr J. S. Elliott vicepresident, and Dr P. P. Lynch honorary secretary.

• An Auckland telegram records the death of Mr R. C. Carr, late director of the New Zealand Insurance Company, and a well-known old colonist. Messrs R. O. Bradley, F. Coop, E, Ilodgen, F. Miller, R. M. Morten, W. F. Parkinson and J. Rennie have been appointed members of the Waihora Domain Board. The council of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts has elected his Grace Archbishop Redwood and Ernest D. Bell honorary life members in consideration of their long association with the academy and valuable support and assistance extending over a long period of years. Mr C. M. Bowden, president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, left Wellington for Sydney by the Marama. He expects to be absent for some weeks, and will represent New Zealand at the Australian Chambers of Commerce Conference to be held in Hobart. He will spend some time in Melbourne and Sydney. Mr J. A. Paterson, formerly City Engineer of Wellington, who is now connected with British Pavements (Canterbury), Ltd., left on Saturday night to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers, which is opening in Wellington to-day. Mr A. Donald Paterson, his brother, left earlier to attend tho conference. The appointment of Mr H. G. Miller to the staff of Victoria College, Wellington, was referred to at Friday evening's meeting of the Tutorial Class committee of Canterbury College, and the secretarv was instructed to forward to Mr Miller a letter of congratulation, and of appreciation of his services for the W.E.A. in South Canterbury. Gratification at the excellent recovery made by Mr Cyril Burton, formerly organiser for the Young Men s Bible Class Movement, who met with a serious motor-cycle accident near Gisborne recently, was expressed at this morning's session of the Methodist Conference. The conference also expressed its appreciation of the Rev G. Frost’s attention to Mr Burton whils he was in the Gisborne Hospital. Mr C. A. Whitney, president of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, and Mr Frank Dver, a member of the committee of the Wellington Acclimatisation Societv, are going to the mouth of the Rakaia for quinnat salmon fishing. They expect to be a week m camp. Mr T A Johnston, who up till recently was resident engineer in charge of the construction of the dams at Mangahao. has been transferred to Westland as District Public Works Engineer. with headquarters at Greymouth. He was at one time associated with the Otira Tunnel construction. Prior to leaving Mangahao Mr Johnston was the recipient of a presentation from the Public Works staff and foremen. and also from Mangahao Workers* Union.
