DRIVERLESS TRAINS TO CARRY MAILS FOR LONDON P.O.

6] MILE TUNNEL TO BE BUILT TO SPEED UP TRAFFIC HANDLING

By Telegraph.— Pr«ss Assn.— Copyright. *’ Times ” Service. (Received February 10, 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, February 9. The Post Office has inaugurated a new underground system for handling mail traffic between the principal offices, including the General Post Office and also the huge parcels office. The latest extensions provide for a continuous nine-foot tunnel from Paddington to Whitechapel, a distance of 6£ miles, and miniature driverless trains, electrically controlled, to convey the post bags. The trains can either stop at all stations or do a nonstop trip. The full distance will be covered in 15 minutes. The tube also links up the office with main line rail stations.
