INSURANCE FOR UNEMPLOYED IS NOW PROPOSED.
AUCKLAND MEETING TO CONSIDER MATTER. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 10. The City Council last night considered a request that it appoint a member to represent it at a citizens’ meeting next week, when it is proposed to forward to the Government a resolution suggesting that steps be taken immediately to introduce a National Unemployment Insurance Bill. The Mayor, Mr Baildon, said that it looked remarkably like the dole, and he was not in favour of that. If they sent a delegate to the meeting they would be confirming the opinion that unemployment insurance was necesCouncillor Allum said that the matter should go to the council in committee. The position was getting worse instead of better. Councillor Allum’s suggestion was adopted. Councillor Entrican: But, cannot wc be represented at the conference? Councillor Phelan: Too late; you’ve turned it down.
