At the monthly meeting of the Shirley School Committee the following members were present:—Messrs Thompson (chairman), Stanley, Hunt, Salt, Finney.- Burson, Clothier, Anderson, and Mrs M’Kay. The head master reported that the roll number now stood at 660. Sixty-six pupils had left and 57 had been admitted. The sub-committee set up to go into the matter of stationery for the school reported, and it was decided to leave the position as at present. The chairman reported hiving secured the racecourse for a picnic for February 10. Trams would leave the terminus at 9.30 and return at 5.30 p.m. Fares for adults were fixed at Is. It was decided to write to the Education Board for a grant towards a well for providing water for school use. The Visiting Committee appointed for the month were Messrs Finney and Salt.
