CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Ethel Esther O’Malley, aged 43 (Mr Bowie), pleaded guilty to a charge-of drunkenness and was convicted and fined £3, in default seven days’ imprisonment. She was ordered to take out a prohibition order against herself. A female first offender was fined the amount of her bail, 20s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. REMANDED. “A peculiar thing is that the. accused has just come out of prison from serving a term for theft of the same bicycle,” said Chief-Detective Carrol, in asking for a remand of Edward Helmsley Dawson, who appeared on a charge of stealing a motor-cycle, valued at £4O, the propert}' of Arthur Leonard AlbertA remand till Febiuary 9 was granted. CHILDREN S COURT. (Before Mrs A. E. Herbert, 7.P., and Messrs E. P. Mosley, S.M., and W. M., West, J.P.) Charged with the theft of two bicycles, a boy of 17i years, appeared. Two bo} r s identified parts of each of their bicycles, which had been used tc make up a bicycle produced in Court. Accused said that he saw the frame of the bicycle lying in a lane. It had been there for three days, when he decided to take it home and fix it up for his own use. The probation officer’s report was that he was a boy who had had “too much rope.” He reported very regularly. A discussion between the father and Mr Mosley resulted in the arrangement being made that the boy should join the Y.M.C.A. He was placed under the supervision of the probation officer for two years, a condition being made that he is not to go out late at night and is to give up the company of one of his friends. WITHOUT LIGHTS. Three boys, all aged 16. were fined 2s 6d each for riding without lights.
