BRIGADE IS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH FIRES.
Fire, originating under the kitchen on the ground floor of a two-storey’ house at 225, Lichfield Street, at MBO a.m. today’, seriously damaged theSSn tents of the building. The building, which is of wood and iron, is occupied by Mr James Hepburn and owned by Mr G. L. Brown, 180, Chester. Street. The fire spread rapidly, but the arrival of the brigade confined the damage to the contents, which were insured for £l3O. ' Fire, in some old papers in. a basement below the Union Steam Ship Company’s offices in Hereford Street was responsible for the brigade turning out at 3.55 a.m. to-day. There was no damage beyond that done to the papers, which were of little value. A large rubbish fire which started to burn a garage on the Cashmere Hills to-day necessitated the calling of the Fire Brigade. The garage, which was owned by Mr M. Jones, was only slightly damaged.
