YOUNG WOMEN ARE “APING THE APE."

PROFESSOR CONDEMNS “ AESTHETIC DROOP.” (Special to the " Star. ”) ABERDEEN, November 15. "Aping the ape" is how Professor Alexander Low, of the Chair of Anatomy at Aberdeen University, describes the action of those young women who cultivate the “aesthetic droop.” This, he explains, is to walk or stand With the head thrust forward, the chin up, and the shoulders rounded. Such a posture characterises those with weak muscular and nervous systems. “Young women who walk in this way should know that they are aping the ape and disregarding one of the chief glories of man. No one should disregard the Army rule of head up, chin in, and chest out.” “Very high-heeled shoes,” the professor added, "if worn habitually, might lead to a shortening of the tendon of the heel, with muscle strain, stiffness, and a stumbling gait. The proper method of walking is by ‘parallel gait,’ which tends to strengthen the feet and increase their elasticity.”
