“STOWAWAY” RECEIVES MONTH AT ASHBURTON.

(Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, December 17. Peter Butler, alias Joseph Clancy, • aged fifty-six, was to-day sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, for the theft of a pair of boots which were hanging outside a local shop. He had a formidable list of previous convictions at places from the Bluff to Auckland, and was characterised as an old stowaway journeying from one island to the other on coastal steamers.
