ROTARY CLUB WILL APPEAL FOR ORPHANS.
COMBINED BAND CONCERT WILL BE HELD IN HOSPITAL GROUNDS. At three o’clock to-morrow afternoon m the beautiful grounds of the Public Hospital the Christchurch Rotary Club will launch its Christmas appeal on behalf of the orphans and needy families of the city. A combined city band will give a varied and pleasing programme. The appeal will be continued on Thursday and Friday next from a tent in Cathedral Square, when ail opportunity will be given to all to contribute something towards the enjoyment of their less fortunate fellows. The Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer) and the president of the Rotary Club (Dr P. Stanley Foster) will give brief addresses before the band concert opens. A very fine programme has been arranged, and, as it will be given by selected members of the city bands, it should prove a rare musical treat. Members of the Rotary’ Club will be in attendance in Cathedral Square on Thursday and Friday next week to receive contributions towards the fund being raised to provide Christmas hampers for the city’s orphans and needy families. Mrs A. E. Herbert kindly has undertaken to compile a list of the needy and deserving families. Mrs Herbert’s activities as a social worker and her connection with other social workers place her in a position enabling her to indicate where such gifts are most required and will be most appreciated. The hampers are to be delivered personally by members of the Rotary Club on Christmas Eve. Everyone will be given an opportunity to help either at the band concert in the Hospital grounds to-morrow afternoon or at the tent in Cathedral Square on Thursday and Friday next week.
