LIFE OF CHRIST MADE INTO FILM.
BUT “ SEX APPEAL ” INCIDENT DOES NOT PLEASE ENGLISH CLERGY. By Telegraph.— Asen.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received December 16. 11.30 a.m ) LONDON. December 10. An American film “King of Kings,” covering the lile of Christ, wa* shown to a London audience consisting largely of religionists. Though one thousand feet had been cut from the American version in deference to English susceptibilities, there v>as much public opinion against the cinema representation of Christ, and particularly the additions to the Gospel story, such as Magdalene’s love affair with Judas Iscariot, which apparently was introduced to satisfy the supposed demand for sex appeal. Clergy present did not detect cause for offencq as far as the figure of Christ was concerned. The name of the actor is not disclosed. The Rev Cyril Ilackson, Precentor of Southwark Cathedral, described the Crucifixion scene as most inspiring, while others describe the scourging of Christ as a harrowing scene. The film ends with the Ascension, which Father Dudlv. of the Roman Catholic Missionary Society, likened to the conclusion to a grand ballet.
