B The chairman referred to the great B success of the New Zealand championB ship meeting, and congratulated memB bers of the centre on it. B In connection with the Wellington B remit providing for heats in the 440 B yards New Zealand championship, Mr B Taylor moved as a recommendation to B the New Zealand Council that heats B be run in the 440 yards championship, B and that lanes be provided, j® The motion was carried. Discussion ensued on the question of competitors at the championship meetings exchanging their positions. The present custom is for the second or third man in the team to give his place to the first string when the latter has drawn an outside position. Several delegates stated that it was unfair that any competitor should be made tp surrender a good position. Mr Lockwood contended that the representatives of any provincial team were competing as a team, and that the best man of the team should be given the best chance in the race. The second and third men of the team were there to assist the first string. Mr Cross asked for an interpretation of the word assistance. Each runner was in the race for the purpose of wining, and it was only fair that he should be given the same chance as the first string. Mr Cross moved as a recommendation to the New Zealand Council that all competitors in the New Zealand championships should draw for positions and start from the positions drawn. The motion was carried. The New Zealand Council wrote stating that as it had been found that practically none of the first-class Australian athletes would be available for a tour of New Zealand after the Australasian championships, it had been decided, if the centres were agreeable, to invite J. Standen, champion track cyclist of Australia, to tour the Dominion. It was decided to notify the copnoil that the centre would support the tour providing that Standen reached Christchurch not before February. On behalf of the- Country Clubs’ Committee, Mr Cross reported that it, had been decided to allot the country clubs’ championship to Timaru. The report was adopted. The programme for the Waimate sports, to be held on December 26, was approved. An application for reinstatement by R. E. Stringer was forwarded to the New Zealand Council with a favourable recommendation.
