EX-SOLDIERS' CHILDREN AWARDED BURSARIES.

(Special to the “Star.”) M ELLINGTON, December 16. For 1928, 283 applications for bursaries were received by the Trentham Scholarship War Fund Committee for the balance of the period the fund is designed to cover. The amount in the hands of the Public Trustee will, at present rate of interest, provide an annuity of £3270 per annum. This amount is augmented by a contribution from the Canteen 1 und, but even with this the executive found it necessary to decline fifty-three applications in order that the children of deceased and disabled men might hare first consideration. Finally. 230 bursaries were awarded, covering £4930. Mr T. B. Strong becomes a member of the executive, vice Mr Caughley.
