CHRISTCHURCH GETS WINTRY BLASTS.
With a strong sou’-wester blowing, and the rain falling in torrents, the weather to-day more resembled the depths of winter than the middle of summer. Following a rain-soaked night, Christchurch woke up this morning to find the skies still dark, and the rain still falling. So Christchurch folk again turned out in overcoats, prepared for the worst, and it came in the form of heavy rain and sleet. At noon, though the wind was still blowing fiercely, the sun had once again broken through. In view of the experiences of this summer, however, no one was courageous enough to wager that the sun would win. Appearances are deceptive, however, and within half an hour it was raining again. Up till noon 0.048 mof rain had fallen.
