COAL INDUSTRY BEING KILLED BY STRIKES.
AUSTRALIA’S EXPORT TRADE DWINDLING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received December 8, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY. December 8. Reviewing the enormous loss of
wages and industrial dislocation due to strikes, Mr M 'Donald, chairman of the Northern Colliery Proprietors’ Association, said that never in the histqry of the State had slackness in trade been so intense. It .was assuming proportions that were causing anxiety and alarm to the colliery proprietors. Australia’s trade in export coal was dwindling towards extinction. In twelve years from 1913 to 1925 inter-State and foreign shipments fell by more than 1.000,000 tons, - and .it was in the nature of a tragedy that while a great industry was fighting for existence the pits should be made idle on pretexts which were unreasonable and often frivolous.
