LESSONS IN THRIFT FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN.

(Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, December 8. The Wellington School Committees’ Association and the Headmasters' Association last night jointly resolved that whilst recognising the importance of encouraging lessons of thrift among scholars, the meeting feels that the present opportunities provided by the Government Savings Bank are sufficient for the purposes desired, but are of opinion that a special day once a year should be set apart to be known as Savings Day, in which scholars could be addressed by the headmaster on the advantages of saving and lessons of thrift. It was agreed that the resolution should not debar any school committee from arranging with an individual headmaster to inaugurate a school banking system if such action were deemed advisable by the headmaster and the committee.
