Sir J. R. Sinclair, MI.C, was a passenger by the ferry steamer from Wellington this morning. Messrs A. Jull, D. M. Findlay (Wellington) and J. C. Brown (Westpoft) are staying at Warner’s. Guests at the United Service include: Messrs F. Piper (Wellington), A. H. Crawley and A. Stewart (Dunedin). Mr G. M. Hall, who has been an inmate of the Lewisham Hospital, has now returned to his home. At a meeting of the directors of the Australian Provincial Assurance Association on November 1, Mr William Tilley, of Sydney, was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy on the board caused by the resignation of Dr E. Morris Humphrey.

Mr Alexander Jobson. of Sydney. has been appointed a local director of the Bank. of New Zealand in that city. Mr R. M. Campbell, M.A., LL.B.. late of the Prime Minister's Depart, ment, has just arrived in England after an extensive tour of the United States. where he saw many of the leading‘ economists, and investigated local conditions. Mr Campbell will proceed to‘ the London School of Economics to‘ undertake research work in indusfxial economics {or the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Before leaving New Zea.land, Mr Campbell completed, under the Jacob Joseph Scholarship Foundation, a study of the Industrial Condlia. tion and Arbitration system that is considered by Professor Murphy to be the lbest contribution to the literature of ‘ the subject that has appeared for many lyears.
