With full Masonic ceremonial, the Duke of Connaught symbolically laid the foundation-stone of the new London Masonic Temple, which is intended both as a central home of the Craft and to perpetuate the memory of Masons who fell in the war. The Duke of Connaught, who is initiating the project, appealed for £1.000,000. He announced that £900,000 had been promised, of which £725,000 had been paid. The actual ceremony occurred at the Covent Garden site, but in order to accommodate 10.000 delegates from overseas branches, a replica was produced at the Albert Hall. Full regalia was worn, and the Duke of Connaught’s arrival was announced by a fanfare of trumpets. The Duke of York and Prince Arthur of Connaught participated in the procession, carrying their emblems of office. As the stone was laid, tl*i Duke of Connaught re-enacted the ceremony according to the Masonic code, and read the King’s message appx'eciating the assembly’s loyalty.
