RAILWAY TRANSPORT OF RACEHORSES.

NEW ZEALAND HORSES WANTED FOR AUSTRALIA.

(Special to the "Star.' ) WELLINGTON, June 22. Members of the Railway Board have been in communication with the secretary of the Wellington Racing Club and other racing people, and it is hoped that next month a conference will be arranged between trainers owners and responsible officers of the railways. At this the vexed question of rail wav transport of racehorses will be fully discussed, and the aggrieved parties will be able,to state their cases, while the representatives of the Department will have the right to explain their side. The organisation of this conference has already commenced, and as trainers and owners from all parts of the Dominion will be at Trentham , in July it is more than possible that a certain amount of good will come out of a round-the-table talk. I It is pointed out that the GovernI ment takes thousands of pounds out of race meetings when club profits are measured in hundreds, so that it is up to another Government Department, in the Railways, to help to prolong the life of such a big product of revenue. He was out at Trentham on Tuesday, and said that the tracks there were comparable with those at Randwick. so extraordinarily bad had the Sydney weather been lately. The sand track at Trentham is stated to be a better wet weather track than any at Randnick Price leaves on the return journey for Sydney by the Tahiti on July °* Amongst the travellers experiencing the interrupted journey on the Makura is W. Kelso, jun.. son of a well-known Randwick trainer. Kelso, who is on a holiday trip to America, is foreman of his father's stable.
