BOX PLANS NOW OPEN FOR LOCAL RENEE KELLY SEASON.

Xext Saturday evening, at the Theatre Royal Renee Kelly, the accomplished young comedy star, supported by the J. C. Williamson English Comedy Company. will make her first appearance in Christchurch in the piquant play of modern life, “Polly With a Past.” In this play Miss Kelly made her first appearance in Australia and it stamped her at once as an artiste of outstanding ability. Describing the opening performance in Wellington, the •“ Dominion ” stated:—“A very large attendance at the Grand Opera House greeted the English comedy star, Miss Renee Kelly, who, under the management of J. C. Williamson (N.Z.), Ltd., made her first appearance in Xew Zealand in the sparkling three-act comedy, ‘ Polly With a Past.’ It is long since such delightful pure comedy has been seen and heard here as was presented by Miss Kelly and her well-balanaed English ’company. As the daughter of the village parson who yearns for Paris, Miss Kelly gave a performance which stamped her as an actress of the very front rank. The costuming was a feature of the comedy. The play was excellently produced by Mr Hylton Allen, and was mounted and staged in the best Williamson style. There was a scene of enthusiasm at the close, and the curtain calls did not cease until Miss Renee Kelly had made a dainty little speech, thanking the audience for their wonderful welcome.” Following the opening piece, Renee Kelly will appear in Frederick Lonsdale’s comedy, “ The Last of Mrs Oheyney.” It has a mystery plot concerning a beautiful woman, smart, witty epigrams about various society leaders, and exquisite costuming. Renee Kelly is to be a chorus girl, or, at least, an ex-chorus girl in “ Brown Sugar.” The title of the play sounds | curious until one learns that it is a de- j scription of the heroine. She is “sweet, but unrefined.” Renee Kelly will finish her season here in the play that made her famous in London, “ Daddy Long Legs.” The box plans are now open at the Bristol.
