LISTENERS’ LEAGUE HOLDS MEETING TO DISCUSS RULES.

A meeting: of the Canterbury Listeners' League was held in the Y.M.C.A. last evening, Mr Arnaud M’Kellar presiding over a fair attendance. The objects of the meeting were to consider the report of the provisional committee, to deal with the proposed rules and the election of officers. The objects of the league as outlined in the proposed rules were as follQWS:— 1. To co-operate with broadcasters with a view to improving the standard of radio broadcasting. 2. To represent the views and generally to further the interests of listeners. Rules applying to the membership were as follows: 1. Any person being the holder of a radio receiver’s license shall be eligible for membership. 2. Either sex may be eligible for membership. The suggested subscription was Is for adults and 6d for juniors. The adoption of the proposed rules was proposed by Mr Gresson, and seconded by Mr A. L>. Ford. An amendment, “That no person in the employ of the Broadcasting Company or who is the holder of a trader’s license in wireless apparatus should be eligible for election to the committee ” was proposed by Mr Smith and seconded by Mr Abbott. Speaking in connection with the amendment, Mr Gresson said that such a rule was hardly necessary.- as such a person would hardly seek election, as he would be owing two duties both of which he could not carry out. The committee in ar.y case would not run tinleague, but. would help the members of the league as a whole to attain their objects. The amendment was do tea ted. The original motion was put to the meeting and carried unanimously. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr K. M. Gresson; vice-presi-dent, Air E. J. Bell: treasurer, Mr 11. P. V. Brown: secretary, Mr A. L>. Ford, committee, Messrs D. <\ Cossgrove, R A. M'Lennan, G. M. Pill. E. Smith. W Green, J. E. Bobby. H. B. Sargeant. M. Wright, L. Morrison, B. Brownrigg, JT. B.
